Ajmer Sharif Dargah is the mausoleum of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (1141–1236 CE), a revered Sufi saint of the Chishti order who played a key role in spreading Sufism in India. The shrine attracts millions of devotees annually, including people from different religions. It is located in the narrow lanes of Ajmer’s old market area.
The complex includes the saint’s marble tomb (inside the main sanctum), massive Nizam Gate (built by the Nizam of Hyderabad), Shah Jahan Gate, Akbari Masjid (built by Emperor Akbar), and large cauldrons (degs) used for cooking communal food (langar). The area remains crowded most of the year, especially during the annual Urs festival (death anniversary of the saint).
