Anegundi Fort

Anegundi Fort stands as a silent sentinel over the mythical land of Kishkindha. Believed to predate the Vijayanagara Empire, it once guarded the royal settlement of Anegundi, which some historians claim was the early capital before Hampi rose to prominence. The fort walls, though in ruins today, stretch across rocky hills and plains, enclosing remnants of old gateways, bastions, and ancient structures.

The view from the fort offers a panoramic sweep of the Tungabhadra River and the surreal landscape of granite boulders that define this region. Its layered history — from Chalukyan to Vijayanagara rule — and its association with the Ramayana make it both a historical and mythological gem.
