Key Gompa is the largest and most iconic monastery in Spiti Valley, perched on a hilltop above the Spiti River at an altitude of 4,166 m. Dating back over a thousand years, it follows the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism and is renowned for its fortress-like architecture, ancient murals, and rare scriptures.
How to Reach Key Gompa (Key Monastery)
The monastery is about 14 km from Kaza and can be reached by road, with regular taxis and local transport available from the town.
