Mahabalipuram Shore Temple

The Shore Temple in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu, is one of the oldest stone temples in South India, dating back to the 8th century CE. Built during the reign of the Pallava king Narasimhavarman II (Rajasimha), this temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is renowned for its Dravidian architecture, intricate carvings, and stunning coastal location. It is part of the Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram and is one of the few surviving stone temples from the Pallava dynasty.

Situated on the shores of the Bay of Bengal, the temple complex consists of three shrines, with the main one dedicated to Lord Shiva, and the smaller ones dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Durga. The temple's granite structure has withstood centuries of corrosion by sea winds and waves, adding to its historical significance.
