Rock Garden of Chandigarh

The Rock Garden of Chandigarh, conceived by Nek Chand Saini, is one of India’s most extraordinary artistic creations — a sprawling fantasyland made from discarded materials. Spread over 40 acres, it features sculptures, waterfalls, terraces, and courtyards crafted from broken bangles, tiles, ceramics, glass, and industrial waste.

Started secretly in 1957 by Nek Chand on government land, it remained hidden for nearly 18 years until it was discovered by authorities, after which it was preserved and expanded as a public space. Today, the Rock Garden represents the spirit of recycling, creativity, and resilience, attracting millions of visitors each year. Walking through its winding alleys and mosaic-covered walls feels like stepping into a dreamscape that challenges the very definition of art and urban aesthetics.
