Thrissur Pooram

Thrissur Pooram, introduced by Sakthan Thampuran (Maharaja of Cochin) in the late 18th century, is one of the largest and most colorful festivals in Kerala. It brings together multiple temples, primarily Vadakkunnathan Temple, with majestic processions of caparisoned elephants, rhythmic percussion performances like Panchavadyam and Melam, and a world-famous fireworks display that lasts through the night.
It is celebrated in Thrissur city, Kerala, and is a cultural extravaganza that attracts lakhs of people, including international visitors. The special highlight is the Kudamattom ceremony, where parasols atop elephants are rapidly exchanged to create a visual spectacle.
