Mani Mahesh Trek (Manimahesh Kailash Yatra Trek)

The Mani Mahesh Trek, also known as the Manimahesh Kailash Yatra Trek, is one of the most spiritually charged and visually stunning treks in Himachal Pradesh. Nestled in the Pir Panjal range, it takes trekkers from Bharmour to the sacred Manimahesh Lake, lying at an altitude of around 4,080 meters at the base of Manimahesh Kailash Peak (5,653 m) — believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva. The trek is a blend of rugged mountain trails, alpine meadows, cascading streams, and breathtaking views of snow-clad peaks, offering both spiritual fulfillment and natural grandeur.

The journey typically begins from Hadsar, 13 km from Bharmour, with the route passing through Dhancho, where pilgrims often rest overnight. From there, the trail steepens towards Gauri Kund and finally reaches the Manimahesh Lake, a glacial tarn surrounded by mighty cliffs and peaks. Every year, during the Manimahesh Yatra (around Janmashtami and Radha Ashtami), thousands of devotees undertake this trek barefoot or with minimal gear, braving unpredictable weather as a mark of devotion to Lord Shiva.

Beyond its religious significance, the trek appeals to adventure seekers for its raw Himalayan terrain, serene environment, and opportunities for solitude once the pilgrimage season ends.
