Half Moon Beach is one of Gokarna’s most serene and lesser-crowded beaches, tucked between Om Beach and Paradise Beach along the rugged coastline. The beach gets its name from its distinct crescent or “half-moon” shape, bordered by rocky cliffs and dense green hills. The clear blue waters, soft sand, and surrounding jungle make it ideal for those seeking quietude and natural beauty.

It’s a favorite stop on the popular Gokarna Beach Trek route that runs from Kudle to Paradise Beach. There are a few basic beach huts and shacks offering food and drinks, mostly seasonal and operated by locals. At night, the sky opens up for stargazing — a major highlight for campers and backpackers who stay overnight.

How to Reach Half Moon Beach

You can reach Half Moon Beach either by trekking from Om Beach (around 20–30 minutes) or by taking a short boat ride from Om or Kudle Beach.

There’s no motorable road access — you must trek or take a boat. Avoid trekking after dark as the trail passes through forested and rocky terrain. Carry essentials like water and sunscreen, as facilities are minimal. During monsoon, the beach can be unsafe due to strong waves and limited connectivity.
