Hawa Mahal

Hawa Mahal, or the "Palace of Winds," is one of the most iconic landmarks of Jaipur, renowned for its unique honeycomb-like facade with 953 intricately carved windows (jharokhas). Built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, the structure was designed by Lal Chand Ustad to allow royal women to observe street festivities without being seen, following the traditions of purdah (seclusion).

The five-story pyramidal structure, made of red and pink sandstone, reflects a fusion of Rajput and Mughal architectural styles. Its ventilated design allows cool air to pass through, making the palace comfortable even during Jaipur’s scorching summers. Inside, the palace features ramps instead of stairs, allowing easy access to different levels.

Hawa Mahal is not just an architectural marvel but also a historical symbol of Jaipur, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city and Jantar Mantar from its upper floors.
