Shree Gundicha Temple

Shree Gundicha Temple holds immense religious significance as it is believed to be the aunt’s house (Mausi Maa) of Lord Jagannath. Located around 3 km from the Jagannath Temple, it is deeply associated with the annual Rath Yatra (Chariot Festival), one of the grandest Hindu festivals. During this festival, the deities travel from the Jagannath Temple to Gundicha Temple in elaborate chariots, where they reside for a week before returning.

The temple itself is an architectural marvel built in Kalinga style, constructed from light gray sandstone. Unlike the Jagannath Temple, it remains mostly empty throughout the year, except during the Rath Yatra. The temple complex has four chambers, including the sanctum (Garbha Griha) where the deities are placed during their stay. The temple’s simple yet divine ambiance makes it a must-visit for devotees and spiritual seekers.
