Abbott Mount Church

Abbott Mount Church is one of the few remaining relics of the British era in the Kumaon region. Built in the early 20th century by John Harold Abbott, who developed Abbott Mount as a summer retreat, the church reflects classic European architecture. Though it is now in a state of disuse, the Gothic-style structure, arched windows, and wooden interiors still tell stories of its grand past.

The church is nestled amidst tall pine and deodar trees, adding to its secluded and tranquil appeal. It is located near Abbott Mount’s bungalow settlement, which was once a retreat for British officers. While the church remains closed, the mystical aura and historical significance attract history buffs, nature lovers, and photographers. Many visitors also explore the Abbott Mount Cemetery, further enhancing the region’s enigmatic charm.

Abbott Mount itself is known for breathtaking views of snow-clad Himalayan peaks, including Nanda Devi and Panchachuli. The peaceful environment and eerie legends surrounding the area make it an intriguing spot for both spiritual seekers and adventure enthusiasts.
