Purnagiri Temple

Purnagiri Temple, located about 20 km from Tanakpur in Uttarakhand, is one of the Siddha Peeths and a highly revered pilgrimage site. Perched on a hilltop, the temple attracts thousands of devotees, especially during the Chaitra Navratri festival. From the temple, one can witness breathtaking views of the Kali River, which later descends into the plains as the Sharda River.

Purnagiri Temple, also known as Punyagiri, is an important Hindu pilgrimage site dedicated to Goddess Purnagiri Mata. The route to the temple involves a trek from Thuligaarh, leading to Tanki, and finally reaching the Purnagiri hilltop.

Apart from its religious significance, the temple offers panoramic views of the Kali River, its beaches, and islands, along with a glimpse of Tanakpur town and villages in Nepal. Just 15 km ahead, one can visit the Panchmukhi Mahadev Temple, another sacred site in the region.

How to Reach Purnagiri Temple

To reach Purnagiri Temple, visitors can travel to Thuligaarh by road, which is the last motorable point. From there, a trek of a few kilometers leads to Tanki, followed by the final ascent to Purnagiri hilltop. Shared jeeps and local taxis are available from Tanakpur to Thuligaarh.
