Laxmi Narayana Temple

Situated in the heart of Chamba town, the Laxmi Narayana Temple is the most revered place of worship in the region. Built in the 10th century AD by Raja Sahil Varman, the temple has been continuously worshipped for centuries and remains an active center of devotion. The temple complex is not just one shrine but a cluster of temples dedicated to different deities, with the main sanctum devoted to Lord Vishnu (as Vaikuntha). Pilgrims and visitors are drawn here not only for its religious significance but also for its timeless architectural beauty and serene atmosphere.

Historical Significance:
The temple was constructed under the reign of Raja Sahil Varman (920–940 AD), who is credited with establishing the Chamba kingdom. Architecture Details:

• The temple is built in the Shikhara (Nagara) style of North Indian architecture.

• The sanctum sanctorum is surmounted by a tall curvilinear tower (shikhara).

• The temple complex includes six temples, dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, along with other smaller shrines.

• A wooden canopy was added by Raja Chhatra Singh in the 17th century to protect the temple shikhara from snowfall.
