Mukhba Temple

Mukhba Temple is an important religious site in the Gangotri region. Every year, as winter approaches (usually mid-November), the idol of Goddess Ganga is brought from Gangotri Temple in a grand procession and placed in Mukhba Temple, where it remains until spring (April-May) when it is returned to Gangotri. This ritual ensures that the Char Dham Yatra continues without disruption even when the Gangotri shrine becomes inaccessible due to heavy snowfall.

The village of Mukhba, located near Harsil, is a quaint Himalayan settlement known for its traditional wooden houses, apple orchards, and cultural significance. It provides a peaceful alternative to the bustling pilgrimage site of Gangotri.
