Sanjay Van is a dense forest area spread over 780 acres in South Delhi, making it one of the city’s largest green lungs. Managed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Sanjay Van is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including nilgai (blue bulls), jackals, peacocks, and over 100 species of birds.

The forest is dotted with ancient ruins from the Qila Rai Pithora era, adding a historical charm to the natural beauty. Walking and cycling trails run through the thick canopy, making it a perfect spot for morning walks, jogging, and photography. The area is particularly popular among bird watchers, as it attracts both resident and migratory birds. Additionally, Sanjay Van is known for its haunted folklore, making it an intriguing destination for adventure seekers.

How to Reach Sanjay Van

Sanjay Van is located near Vasant Kunj and Mehrauli, easily accessible by metro, bus, auto-rickshaw, and cabs. The nearest metro stations are Qutub Minar (Yellow Line) and Chhatarpur (Yellow Line), both about 3–4 km away. From these stations, visitors can take an auto-rickshaw or cab to reach the main entrance. DTC buses also connect the area, with routes like 717, 764, 519, and 604 stopping near Vasant Kunj and Mehrauli. If traveling by car, parking is available at some entry points, but it is limited. Since the forest has multiple entry gates, it’s best to check the closest access point based on your location. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon to enjoy the serene environment and avoid the heat.
