India’s first and only sloth bear sanctuary, Daroji offers a rare chance to watch these shy creatures in their natural rocky habitat near the heritage ruins of Hampi.
Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary

Established in 1994, Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary spans over 80 square kilometers of rugged scrub and rocky terrain that was once barren land. Over the years, it has been transformed into a thriving ecosystem supporting a significant population of Indian sloth bears. The sanctuary features watchtowers from which visitors can observe bears emerging in the late afternoon to feed on jaggery, fruits, and termites.

Apart from sloth bears, the sanctuary is home to leopards, hyenas, mongooses, porcupines, and numerous bird species, making it a delight for wildlife photographers and naturalists. The peaceful, offbeat landscape contrasts sharply with the historical ruins of Hampi nearby, offering a diverse travel experience blending nature and heritage.
